When Fr. Brian Sattler first came to our parish in July 2015 he immediately noticed that our tabernacle was not located in the main sanctuary of the church. Rather it was in the Eucharistic Chapel. In talking with people around the diocese (including the bishop) as well as many of the parishioners of St Joseph, he came to the conclusion that a new tabernacle should be purchased and installed in a place of honor in the sanctuary.
During those conversations, he came to understand that the people of the parish also wanted to see a new crucifix in the sanctuary. The same company that sold us the tabernacle located an artist in Italy who is a great–nephew of the artist who carved the statues of Mary and Joseph. This artist was commissioned to carve the corpus of Jesus. The final piece of the puzzle was the cross. Our very own John Goris, who has built so much of the furniture in the sanctuary, was asked to build the cross. John took on the project and lovingly constructed the cross as well as the pedestal for the tabernacle. We thank John for his generosity, craftsmanship, and care. A beautiful piece of marble was selected for the top of the pedestal. When all the pieces were put together and installed in the sanctuary it became clear that this is the way it should be!
